This paper contains a handout that was designed to raise motivated second language learners’ awareness of the directions their self-directed language learning may take. The handout’s six sections cover topics such as: learner needs analysis; goals & objectives; materials selection; learner strategies; self-assessment; and self-reflection. Japanese university students are the intended recipients of the handout. The handout is a prototype because it has not been field tested as of the time of writing.}, pages = {38--58}, title = {Self-Directed Learning for English Language Learners}, volume = {3}, year = {2017} }
