In Taiwan, kindergarten and daycare centers were integrated in 2012. This integration not only unified the early education system but also resulted in significant changes to educational contents.
This study aims to clarify the changes in early childhood education and care (ECEC) practices due to the integration of kindergarten and daycare centers in Taiwan through an examination of public preschools in Taoyuan City.
This study finds that the integration emphasized continuity with elementary schools, respect for diversity, and child-centered education. Moreover, preschool teachers were observed to take pride in their individual ECEC practices. The education provided at these centers considered the regional characteristics and ethnic diversity of each preschool.
In this way, the study provides insights that can inform the future development of ECEC practices in Japan. |
