| 内容記述 | In the past 15 years, research on new professional staff in the third space of higher education has increased dramatically. This has led to several controversies about the academic and professional staff divide. This article introduces one of these controversies, the conflict of professional identity, with a case study of a professional program manager at a Doctoral Training Center in the UK. The manager’s tasks range from public relations to budget management and graduate student support. However, it is a highly specialized job requiring thorough research knowledge. Nevertheless, they feel that their identity as professional staff is in crisis, as people do not understand their role and see their work as inferior to that of academic staff who do not treat them respectfully. Therefore, the manager interviewed professional staff at the same university to determine whether other staff felt the same way. Still, no examples of a similar identity crisis were found, which differed from previous research and the present case study. |
